Thabo Molelekwa is a journalist based in Johannesburg, South Africa specializes in Health, Climate, and Energy transition. He worked with Health-e News Citizen Journalism Project from 2013 to 2020, where he mainly wrote about the public healthcare system's issues related to HIV and TB. Before joining Health-e News, Thabo was a member of the Treatment Action Campaign's Vosloorus branch. He was also named the International HIV Prevention Fellow by the International Centre for Journalists in 2016 and became a finalist in the Discovery Health Journalism Awards competition in 2016 and 2017. In 2017, Thabo won the Vodacom Regional Journalist of the Year for his article about the deteriorating healthcare system in the Free State. Thabo was awarded the Grow Great Journalist of the Year award in 2020 for his story on the insufficiency of the child support grant in South Africa. His story shed light on how this grant impacts the nutritional wellbeing of families in black communities, as it is a primary source of survival for many. In addition to writing, he has been actively cultivating relationships with civil society and specific government departments, including Social Development, Education, Health, and Energy, in order to tackle critical service delivery issues. He is also collaborating with grassroots civil society organizations to identify and report on pertinent issues. He has worked with Healthy Living Alliance as a Campaigns Coordinator, responsible for coordinating Heala campaigns and updating social media pages. Organising meetings with Key policymakers, Identifying key policy champions to engage them on Heala campaigns, Preparing quarterly campaign reports and assisting the programme manager with donor reports and the recruitment of members to joining the Alliance.
