Stefan Armbruster is the former Head of News (Pacific) for Radio Free Asia/BenarNews, defunded by US President Donald Trump with an executive order in 2025. Previously he was a correspondent with Australian national public broadcaster SBS World News for 18 years, covering Australia and the Pacific. His reportage has been recognised with numerous awards. Stefan is active in organisations that represent and develop journalists, journalism and media freedom, including as a MEAA union federal councillor and industry fellow at Griffith University. He was born in Germany, grew up in Australia, began his career at public radio 4ZZZ-fm in the 1980s, and worked for a decade in London for the BBC, CNBC, and Dow Jones.
