About Sony
Biography of Sony Ahmed Chowdhury
Sony Ahmed Chowdhury is a passionate and fearless journalist based in Habiganj, Bangladesh, currently serving as the Habiganj correspondent for DBC News, a 24-hour national television channel. With extensive experience in both electronic and print media, including Nagorik TV, he has honed his skills in field reporting, investigative journalism, and news production.
He has actively participated in multiple training workshops organized by the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) in 2019 and 2020, enhancing his professional expertise in modern journalism practices and ethical reporting standards. Sony has been recognized for his excellence in television journalism, receiving the Best Reporter Award from the Habiganj Press Club.
Sony specializes in investigative reporting, focusing on corruption, political irregularities, social injustices, environmental degradation, and issues affecting people’s quality of life. His work stands out for its depth, accuracy, and fearless approach, often exposing irregularities and holding powerful figures accountable. These efforts have earned him public trust and respect, though they have also subjected him to multiple death threats and covert attacks, which he faces with unwavering courage and commitment.
Journalism runs in his family. His father, the late Kamrul Hasan Chowdhury Alim, was a dedicated journalist at the Daily Dinkal who was brutally murdered in 2006. Inspired by his father’s life and legacy, Sony embraced journalism not only as a profession but as a mission to serve the public, give voice to the marginalized, and shine light on social and political wrongs.
Through his reporting, Sony Ahmed Chowdhury continues to illuminate critical local and national issues, combining professionalism, integrity, and relentless determination to uphold truth and accountability in society.
