I’m Sepehr Nasihatgar, a journalist and visual storyteller with an A.A. in Photojournalism and a B.A. in Photography. My work sits at the intersection of arts and society, with a focus on music, visual arts, and documentary reporting. I’m not primarily a breaking news reporter; I specialize in features, profiles and analytical stories with longer shelf life, work that adds context, history and human detail. I report across formats, producing photo essays, interviews, podcasts and videos grounded in fieldwork and careful observation.

Video essay (Persian)
In this video, I analyze why many newly invented instruments in Iranian music over the past 20 years have failed to gain lasting adoption. Beyond acoustics and instrument design, I argue that the core issue is the absence of a coherent theoretical framework and dedicated repertoire. The piece includes contextual references to Mohammad Reza Shajarian and other influential musicians and practices.
As the host, journalist, and interviewer, I recorded this Persian (fa-IR) episode as part of my 12-episode series “10 Days with Photographers.” I speak with Iranian filmmaker and photographer "Saifollah Samadian" (a board member of the Iranian Photographers Association at the time of recording) about photography’s social impact and the professional/community work shaping photography in Iran.
