About Mark
Bolgatanga, Ghana | Broadcast & Investigative Journalist | Photojournalist | Documentary Filmmaker

Mark Smith is a broadcast journalist and documentary filmmaker based in Ghana’s Upper East Region, with over six years of experience reporting across radio, television, and digital platforms. He is known for combining hard-hitting investigative journalism with compelling visual storytelling that amplifies voices from underserved and rural communities.

As Creative Director at North Sight Images, Mark has led and contributed to high-impact projects focused on governance, infrastructure, and social justice. He has a strong reporting focus on Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) — covering themes such as mobile money inclusion, digital IDs, e-agriculture, and the transformation of grassroots systems like Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) through technology.

Mark is also a gender-sensitive storyteller. His work frequently explores how digital gaps disproportionately affect women, particularly in mobile ownership and financial inclusion. He’s documented the impact of art education on girls' empowerment, profiled women leaders and entrepreneurs, and produced content that shapes inclusive development conversations.

He is a fellow of the 6th cohort of the NGIJ Investigative Fellowship on Illicit Financial Flows (IFFs), and regularly engages policymakers, activists, and community leaders.
