Check FAQAbout Lukman
Lukman Ahmad is a journalist based in Barcelona, Spain. Lukman Ahmad is a veteran journalist whose more than a decade of work with Voice of America (VOA) has established him as a meticulous and deeply committed storyteller. Throughout his career, he has emphasized the significance of art and culture alongside political developments, social transformations, and cultural narratives—focusing particularly on Kurdish society and, more broadly, on the United States. During his ten years at VOA, Ahmad contributed to a wide spectrum of journalistic work, ranging from in-depth field reporting to radio and television programming. His reporting is characterized by a human-centered approach, documenting stories and events that reflect identity, resilience, displacement, and cultural continuity. A defining highlight of his career was his co-direction of the documentary (The last Dance of Kocho) which addresses the 2014 genocide of the Yazidis by ISIS. In this project, Ahmad brought a unique interdisciplinary perspective, contributing not only as a journalist but also as a professional artist. Through visual storytelling and illustration, he helped translate complex historical trauma into a powerful and accessible narrative, blending investigative journalism with documentary filmmaking. He also hosted the weekly radio program “Deng u Reng” (Voice and Color), known for its cultural and artistic dialogue, and created the TV show “Haft Reng” (Seven Colors), which explored the experiences of Kurdish artists and the role of culture in society. Throughout his career, Ahmad has remained committed to journalistic integrity and the power of media to inform, connect, and inspire.
