Khalid Khattak is a Lahore-based journalist with a strong command of research, analysis, fact-checking, source development, and storytelling with data—making him a versatile and resourceful newsroom professional. His expertise spans editorial planning, including arranging interviews, identifying and coordinating with subject-matter experts, developing questionnaires, creating storyboards, and managing related editorial elements. He is also adept at working as a stringer—collaborating with technical teams and arranging equipment and specialists to produce high-quality multimedia (audio and video) packages when required. With 18 years of experience in the field, Khalid currently serves as a Staff Reporter at The News International. He was selected as a 2013 Daniel Pearl Fellow, during which he worked with the Wall Street Journal (Washington, D.C. Bureau) and the Duluth News Tribune in Minnesota. His commitment to journalism extends to academia, having served as visiting faculty at the Institute of Communication Studies, University of the Punjab. Khalid is the founder of Data Stories, Pakistan’s first and only initiative dedicated exclusively to data journalism. He is also a council member of the Lahore Press Club and a member of the Punjab Union of Journalists. In recent years, he has expanded his skill set into coding, with a particular focus on the R programming language for data and text analysis, further strengthening his ability to uncover and tell impactful stories through data.
