Quality Assessment of Groundwater Based on Geochemical Modelling and Water Quality Index (WQI)

29 Nov 2022  |  MDPI
The study assesses groundwater quality in Nankana Sahib District, Punjab, Pakistan, focusing on arsenic contamination. Using 67 groundwater samples, the research employs multivariate statistical analysis, geochemical modeling, and the Water Quality Index (WQI). Findings reveal that 43% of samples are of poor quality, with 28% exceeding WHO's arsenic limits. The study identifies three water types and highlights rock-water interaction as a key factor influencing hydrochemistry. Health risk assessments indicate significant toxicity, emphasizing the need for sustainable groundwater management and arsenic remediation.

Optimization of Process Parameters in Friction Stir Welding of Aluminum 5451 in Marine Applications

19 Oct 2022  |  mdpi.com
The study investigates the optimization of process parameters in Friction Stir Welding (FSW) for joining aluminum 5451 alloy, which is significant for marine applications. Using the Taguchi method, the research identifies optimal levels of tool rotational speed, feed rate, and tool pin profile to achieve maximum tensile strength and hardness in welded joints. The findings reveal that the pin profile of the tool has the most substantial impact on tensile strength and hardness. The optimized FSW joints demonstrate a joint efficiency of 80.5% for shipping industry applications, indicating their effectiveness and reliability. The study contributes to the field of material science and mechanical engineering by enhancing the understanding of FSW parameters for aluminum alloys in marine environments.

How does conflict lead to poverty?

31 Jan 2022  |  Dunya Blog
The article discusses the persistent issue of poverty in Pakistan, exacerbated by internal and external conflicts, violence, and terrorism. Thiamethoxam Resistance in the House Fly, Musca domestica L.: Current Status, Resistance Selection, Cross-Resistance Potential and Possible Biochemical Mechanisms

01 May 2015  |  journals.plos.org
Sanitation and hygiene are essential in managing house flies, but insecticides like neonicotinoids are increasingly used. Thiamethoxam, a neonicotinoid, is effective but faces resistance issues. This study surveys thiamethoxam resistance in house flies in Punjab, Pakistan, revealing varying resistance levels. Laboratory selection showed significant resistance development, with cross-resistance to imidacloprid but not spinosad. Enhanced activities of CarE and cytochrome P-450 enzymes are linked to resistance. The study suggests that reducing selection pressure could restore thiamethoxam's efficacy, aiding in developing proactive resistance management strategies.
