Suzi Zaky

I’m a multimedia journalist and documentary filmmaker based in Madrid, Spain, with over 12 years of experience in in-depth storytelling from conflict zones particularly Syria during the war. I work closely with NGOs to produce powerful documentaries, interviews, and digital content focused on people affected by war and displacement.
I’ve reported directly from conflict areas and refugee camps, building trust with individuals and capturing stories that go beyond headlines. I handle every part of the process from interviewing and filming to editing and producing whether it's a long-form documentary, a social media video, or a live report. I aim to build real relationships, listen closely, and tell each story with care and dignity.
I’m also a video editor and graphic designer, which means I shape the full visual narrative from behind the camera to the final cut. I create visually impactful content, and I care deeply about how a story feels how the visuals, sound, and rhythm work together to create something honest and emotionally resonant. I also understand the digital landscape: I use SEO, analytics, and social media strategy to ensure these stories are not only seen but also understood, shared, and capable of driving real engagement.
I speak Arabic, English, and Spanish fluently, and have intermediate French and Portuguese. For me, language isn’t just a tool it’s a way to connect, build trust, and understand people across cultures. I also integrate data journalism to give depth and credibility to my work through interactive visuals and storytelling supported by real numbers.
In 2017, I received an award for a short fiction film I created in Syria an experience that broadened my creative perspective and deepened my commitment to human storytelling.
My work is deeply informed by a passion for art, philosophy, and politics. At the heart of everything I do is a belief that journalism should be human, ethical, and deeply connected to the people it represents.
