Land and Maritime claims top communicator at annual awards

The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) recognized Stefanie Hauck, a Public Affairs Specialist at DLA Land and Maritime, as Communicator of the Year during the 2022 DLA Journalism Award competition. Hauck's work in public affairs, including writing and multimedia content, was highlighted for its effectiveness in promoting the Land and Maritime mission. She also earned 3rd place in the Civilian Writer of the Year category. Other awardees included Connie Braesch and Nancy Benecki for Civilian Writer of the Year, and Jason Shamberger for Communicator of the Year. Hauck will represent DLA in the upcoming Defense Media Awards.

Local veteran gets helping hand

Ron Staats, a Vietnam Army veteran from Marion, received community support after his home was destroyed by fire. Over 30 volunteers, including military veterans from Team Rubicon and Team Red, White and Blue, helped clear the site of his trailer. Wendy Anders from the Marion County Veterans Service Office coordinated the effort, which resulted in salvaging Staats' Army uniform and plans for a new trailer on his lot. The organizations aim to bridge the gap between civilians and veterans through service projects.
