Shahrim Tamrin is a journalist based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He has nearly 16 years’ experience in Journalism and Communications with mainstream & online publications, corporate sector, sports body and inter-government agency. He started career as a Sports Journalist with theSunDaily in 1997 before moving to Asian Football Confederation and United Nations. He made the comeback into journalism with The Malay Mail. Later, he became News Journalist and automotive writer in the New Straits Times, Berita Harian and theSunDaily. Shahrim has successfully undergone training under the ICFJ and WHO 2020 Road Safety Training of Trainers programme. He sat on the Board of Directors of Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) from January 2019 until January 2022, the only Journalist appointed to the Board.

Johor Baru’s BRT ready to go by 2025
Johor Baru's Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system is set to begin stage-one operations by the third quarter of 2025. The 55km dedicated bus lane will include three lines and is expected to serve 302,824 passengers daily by 2030. The project, part of the Iskandar Rapid Transit network, is considered cost-effective compared to rail-based projects in Greater Kuala Lumpur. The Iskandar Regional Development Authority has allocated RM2.5 billion for the project, with infrastructure and new electric buses and systems being the main expenditures. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the BRT as part of the 12th Malaysia Plan, and construction is set to begin in November 2023.

Final decision on Bangsar Park guarded security scheme lies with Federal Court
The Federal Court of Malaysia has granted Ranjan Paramalingam and his tenant Jude Micory Lobijin the right to appeal against the Court of Appeal's ruling that the guarded neighbourhood scheme in Bangsar Park is legal. The appellants are challenging the legality and constitutionality of gated and guarded community schemes operated by residents' associations over public areas, as well as the collection of personal data by such schemes. The Court of Appeal had previously ruled that the Bangsar Park Residents Association did not commit nuisance or breach personal data laws while operating the scheme since January 2017. The Federal Court hearing is set for May 9, and a related Kuala Lumpur High Court hearing involving the BPRA's objection to the mayor's decision is scheduled for June 19.
Trackless tram for KLIA soon?
Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) is considering deploying a trackless automated rapid transit (ART) system at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 to transport travelers between the main terminal and satellite building following a recent aerotrain shutdown. The ART vehicle, which has been undergoing trials, may undergo a proof of concept at the airport this year. The aerotrain is set to be replaced by 2025 with nine new trains worth RM700 million. The trackless tram is also undergoing proof of concept in Zhuzhou, China, as part of the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project in Sarawak.

KLIA Aerotrain breakdown yesterday second time in less than six years: MAHB
The KLIA Aerotrain experienced a breakdown for the second time in less than six years, causing significant inconvenience to passengers. Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) managing director Datuk Iskandar Mizal Mahmood expressed regret and announced the temporary suspension of Aerotrain services for safety reasons. The incident led to 114 passengers walking 400m to the satellite building and caused 10 travelers to miss their flights. MAHB has arranged new flight tickets for the affected passengers and allocated 18 shuttle buses as an alternative. The Aerotrain system, which is 24 years old, is undergoing a replacement process expected to be completed by March 2025.
