Peter Louis Gume Peter is a freelance cameraman, photographer, and video editor with 21 years’ experience, and is well known as a journalist and story gatherer in South Sudan. Peter brings experience from freelance work with international agencies including Aljazeera English & Arabic, and Agence France - -Presse (AFP) and also has insight into the NGO world from his work in communications and content production with the World Food Programme (WFP). Since earning his degree in Development Communication, and a Diploma in Communication and Public Relations, from the University of Juba, Peter has followed his passion to work across journalism, youth empowerment, freedom of expression, and press freedom in South Sudan. This has included working closely with the Government. He has helped improve journalistic standards in South Sudan and trained many camera operators working with South Sudan TV and Ebony TV.

Sudan's Prime Minister resigns after coup and violent repression
Sudan's Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok resigned on January 2, 2022, following a military coup and violent repression of protests. Hamdok's resignation comes two months after the coup led by General Abdel Fattah al Burhan, who had placed Hamdok under house arrest and dissolved civilian institutions. Despite an agreement that reinstated Hamdok as Prime Minister, his acceptance led many Sudanese to view him as a traitor. Protests continued with demands for military withdrawal from governance, resulting in at least 57 civilian deaths since the coup. The UN reported violations, including the rape of 13 protesters in December. International entities like the European countries, the US, and the UN have expressed concern and called for a return to dialogue.
