Toyota Hilux Overturns in Mpika, Leaving 22 Injured

A Toyota Hilux belonging to Shain Hai Construction Company overturned in Mpika District, resulting in injuries to 22 people, including the driver. The accident occurred due to excessive speed, causing the vehicle to hit a tree. The injured are receiving treatment at MICHAEL SATA Hospital. Muchinga Province Police provided details of the incident.

Charlotte Scott, wife of former Vice President Guy Scott, refutes social media rumors of his death, affirming his good health. In an interview with ZNBC, Guy Scott himself confirmed his well-being, accompanied by Robert Kamalata, Lusaka Province Permanent Secretary. Thabo Kawana, Information and Media Permanent Secretary, criticized the spread of false information and urged responsible social media use, emphasizing the need to support rather than harm the Scott family.

KAMBWILI's condition improving

CHISHIMBA KAMBWILI, former Information and Broadcasting Services Minister, is reportedly improving at a South African hospital where he is receiving specialist treatment. He was evacuated earlier this year for this purpose. His brother, MUTALE KAMBWILI, confirmed the positive development in a telephone interview with ZNBC News.

Govt Committed to Support Local Authorities

The Zambian government, led by Vice President Mutale Nalumango, has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting local authorities to enhance service delivery. Since 2021, eight government functions have been devolved to local authorities to bring services closer to the people. At the 2024 National Decentralization Conference in Lusaka, Nalumango emphasized the potential of sub-national structures in improving service delivery. Local Government and Rural Development Minister Gary Nkombo highlighted the unprecedented development in rural areas due to decentralization, addressing long-standing neglect.

IDC nods Mopani deal

The Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) confirmed that the engagement of an equity partner for Mopani Copper Mines adhered to Zambian laws, ensuring no legal breaches. IDC CEO Cornwell Muleya emphasized that the decision to allow the equity partner to hold more shares was crucial for the mine's viability, bringing necessary funding. Muleya also announced plans to offload shares to Zambians, enabling local participation in the mine's operations.
