Largest shopping mall opens in Douala

Douala, the economic capital of Cameroon, now hosts the largest mall in Central Africa, the Douala Grand Mall. The mall, spanning 40,000 m2 with 18,000 m2 of commercial space, offers entertainment, leisure, and shopping with 160 shops, supermarkets, amusement parks, and cinemas. It is expected to attract 300,000 visitors monthly and has created approximately 4,500 jobs. The project, which cost 122 million euros, has injected 46 million euros into the local economy and is supported by the Cameroonian State, aiming for an 80% filling rate by year's end. Covid-19 precautions are in place, including mandatory masks and measures to limit environmental pollution.

The series, influenced by misinformation about the virus, explores themes of blindness and vulnerability, with over a hundred works created since the outbreak began in Cameroon. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, including downsizing his studio space and relying on graphic design for income, Moussa continues to create art that serves as a beacon of hope, as noted by fellow artists and art administrators.
