New Eco-Friendly Thermal Insulation and Sound Absorption Composite Materials Derived from Waste Black Tea Bags and Date Palm Tree Surface Fibers

25 Oct 2024  |  MDPI
Researchers at King Saud University have developed new eco-friendly composite materials using waste black tea bags and date palm surface fibers. These materials, bound with polyvinyl acetate resin, exhibit promising thermal insulation and sound absorption properties, potentially competing with synthetic petrochemical-based materials. The study highlights the environmental benefits of utilizing biodegradable waste materials, reducing landfill contributions, and offering a sustainable alternative to fossil-fuel-based products. The composites demonstrate thermal stability up to 291°C and low moisture content, making them suitable for building applications.

The Impact of Corporate Social Responsibility on Cash Holdings: The Moderating Role of Board Gender Diversity

21 Oct 2024  |  MDPI
The study explores the relationship between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and cash holdings, focusing on the moderating role of board gender diversity. Using data from non-financial firms listed on the Egyptian Exchange, the research finds a significant positive association between CSR and cash holdings, while board gender diversity negatively moderates this relationship. The findings suggest that gender diversity in boardrooms can influence cash management strategies, encouraging firms to prioritize female representation and CSR disclosure. The study contributes to the literature by examining these dynamics in the context of Egypt, an emerging market with unique regulatory and economic characteristics.

Spitzoid melanoma of the finger: a case report

06 Sep 2024  |  jmedicalcasereports.biomedcentral.com
A 25-year-old Tunisian male was diagnosed with spitzoid melanoma on his finger, a rare and aggressive form of skin cancer. Initially misdiagnosed, the tumor was confirmed as melanoma after a biopsy. Despite surgical interventions, including amputation and lymph node removal, the patient developed pulmonary metastases and succumbed to the disease. The case highlights the diagnostic challenges and aggressive nature of spitzoid melanoma, emphasizing the importance of early and accurate diagnosis to improve prognosis. The study also discusses histopathological features and treatment strategies for managing spitzoid melanoma.

Artificial Intelligence-Based Improvement of Empirical Methods for Accurate Global Solar Radiation Forecast: Development and Comparative Analysis

28 Aug 2024  |  MDPI
The study explores the use of artificial intelligence, specifically artificial neural networks (ANNs), to improve the accuracy of global solar radiation (GSR) forecasts. It compares ANN-based models with traditional empirical methods, demonstrating that ANN models provide more precise predictions, particularly in coastal areas. The research develops temperature-based GSR models for five new sites in the Suez Canal zone, which currently lack AI-based models, and evaluates the impact of different validation dataset lengths on model accuracy. The findings show that ANN models outperform empirical models by approximately 7% at coastal sites, with minimal impact from weather variations. The study highlights the potential of AI in enhancing solar energy applications and suggests that ANN-based models are highly recommended for accurate GSR forecasting.

Characterization of Improved Barley Germplasm under Desert Environments Using Agro-Morphological and SSR Markers

04 Aug 2024  |  MDPI
The study focuses on the characterization of improved barley germplasm in desert environments, specifically in Saudi Arabia, using agro-morphological and SSR markers. It highlights the genetic diversity and phenotypic traits of Saudi barley genotypes, aiming to develop superior cultivars suitable for arid conditions. The research identifies significant genetic variability among the genotypes, emphasizing the importance of integrating molecular markers in breeding programs to enhance barley's adaptability and yield in challenging environments. The findings suggest that the newly developed Saudi barley lines show promise for multi-purpose use, including food, feed, and bioenergy, under Saudi agricultural conditions.

Tilt Angle Effect on Natural Convection Heat Transfer from an Inclined Array of Square Cylinders

22 Mar 2024  |  MDPI
The study investigates the effect of tilt angle on natural convection heat transfer from an inclined array of square cylinders. Using three cylinders with varying inclination angles and center-to-center distances, the research measures surface temperatures and calculates local Nusselt and modified Rayleigh numbers. Results indicate that heat transfer is least affected in the lower cylinder and that the Nusselt number degradation decreases with increasing center-to-center distance. New empirical correlations for Nusselt numbers are developed, providing valuable insights for engineering applications involving such configurations.

Empowering Strategies for Lifestyle Interventions, Diet Modifications, and Environmental Practices for Uterine Fibroid Prevention; Unveiling the LIFE UP Awareness

12 Mar 2024  |  mdpi.com
Uterine fibroids disproportionately affect women of color and often lead to invasive surgeries. The LIFE UP awareness strategy emphasizes early management of uterine fibroids through lifestyle interventions, dietary modifications, and environmental practices. This approach aims to prevent fibroids, improve reproductive health, reduce invasive procedures, and save costs. The review calls for future research and policy initiatives in women's health, highlighting the importance of prevention and early intervention.

Blind SQL Injection Attack

04 Mar 2024  |  Medium
Blind SQL injection occurs when an application is vulnerable to SQL injection, but its HTTP responses do not reveal the results of the SQL query or database errors. Traditional techniques like UNION attacks are ineffective, but conditional responses can be exploited to access unauthorized data. By manipulating tracking cookies and using conditional SQL queries, attackers can infer data such as passwords one character at a time. The article provides a detailed example of how to extract an administrator's password using this method.

Epigallocatechin Gallate for the Treatment of Benign and Malignant Gynecological Diseases—Focus on Epigenetic Mechanisms

17 Feb 2024  |  MDPI
Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a major component of green tea, is explored for its potential in treating benign and malignant gynecological diseases through epigenetic mechanisms. The article highlights the role of EGCG in preventing and managing conditions like uterine fibroids, endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and various gynecological cancers. EGCG's antioxidant, anti-proliferative, and pro-apoptotic properties are emphasized, along with its ability to modulate DNA methylation and histone acetylation. The article also discusses the combined effects of EGCG and vitamin D in reducing tumor size and improving symptoms in patients with uterine fibroids. Further research is recommended to fully understand the molecular mechanisms and optimize the therapeutic use of EGCG.
