In pictures: General strike in Catalonia
On Tuesday, Catalonia experienced a 'stoppage for the country' rather than a general strike, with blocked roads and halted public transport. The day was marked by a peaceful atmosphere, contrasting with the violence of the independence vote on Sunday. Catalan television provided continuous coverage, transforming their strike observance into a breaking news event. Demonstrations took place in Barcelona, with participants expressing various political views. Despite King Felipe VI's address that evening, the focus remained on the demonstrations. The article conveys the sense of unity and determination among the Catalan people, who claim the streets as their own.

Diary: the first hours of the 'Catalan Republic'
Less than a week after the proclamation of the Catalan Republic, the government faces sedition charges, political prisoners exist, the president is in exile, and the Catalan administration is under central government control. Despite the chaos, life in Catalonia continues as usual with no significant disruptions. The Republic was declared on October 27, but the following weekend was marked by normalcy and a large unionist demonstration. The Catalan society appears fractured, and businesses are concerned about delayed payments due to the intervention. The situation escalated when President Puigdemont fled to Belgium, leading to mixed reactions. His subsequent press conference from Brussels signaled the end of the Catalan Republic, at least for the time being.
