Crivella on the throat
Marcelo Crivella, the mayor of Rio de Janeiro and a licensed bishop of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God, held a concert to raise funds for the construction of the Holocaust Victims Memorial in Rio. Despite his administration's high disapproval rates, the event was well-received by an audience largely composed of the black evangelical community. The monument, which has been criticized for potentially altering the city's landscape, will be privately funded, with Crivella personally contributing. The event also highlighted the incorporation of Jewish elements into neo-Pentecostal evangelical churches.
Temer Government Appeals to PT to Prevent Oil Workers' Strike
Carlos Marun, Minister of the Government Secretariat, contacted PT deputies seeking to prevent an oil workers' strike scheduled to start on Wednesday. Despite his efforts, PT members, including Paulo Pimenta and Carlos Zarattini, declined to intervene. The strike, called by the FUP and FNP for 72 hours, went ahead despite the TST ruling it illegal. PT's stance shifted from radicalization to moderation, with Senator Lindbergh Farias stating the strike would be limited to production areas without affecting supply.
The Demolition
Luciana Damasceno, a 34-year-old vendor from Vila Kennedy, witnessed the demolition of her kiosk by municipal agents and police on March 9th, despite her and her husband's efforts to save it. The kiosk, which had been in operation without a municipal license, was destroyed as part of a crackdown on criminal activities in the area, which had become a testing ground for federal intervention in Rio de Janeiro's security operations. The mayor, Marcelo Crivella, faced backlash for the demolitions and later provided aid and promised to regularize the situation for the affected vendors. Damasceno, who had invested in a property in Campo Grande with hopes of moving away from the violence in Vila Kennedy, now operates from a plastic tent provided by the municipality.
Far from the Center

Known as @badgcat online, she identifies with the black feminist movement and educates herself on topics like race, gender, and class outside of traditional schooling. Despite not identifying with the political left or right, she plans to study politics to make an informed vote.
