32 kilometers of solidarity with the fight for democracy in Belarus

24 Aug 2020  |  es.euronews.com
Over fifty thousand people in Lithuania formed a human chain from Vilnius to Medininkai to show solidarity with Belarusians aspiring for democratic change. The event, attended by Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius, coincided with the anniversary of the 'Baltic Way' and featured participants dressed in white, carrying Lithuanian and Belarusian flags. The demonstration highlighted the commitment to non-violence and gratitude from Belarusians for the support received.

The latest version, "Trump-Putin V2.0", shows the two men sharing a spliff, and Putin blowing smoke into Trump's mouth. The original piece featured a play on words from Trump's election campaign, with Ceckauskas and Bonanu replacing "Make America Great Again," with "Make Everything Great Again." This time, the new artwork takes on a pro-legalisation theme with "great" being painted in green, to symbolise both Ceckauskas' and Bonanu's pro-cannabis stance.

Out with the litas and in with the euro in Lithuania

23 Dec 2014  |  www.euronews.com
Lithuania is set to adopt the euro on January 1, 2015, after meeting the necessary convergence criteria and overcoming past economic challenges. The transition is expected to bring benefits such as lower interest rates and improved employment, although concerns about inflation and loss of monetary sovereignty persist. The Lithuanian Prime Minister, Algirdas Butkevičius, and the Bank of Lithuania's Chairman, Vitas Vasiliauskas, discuss the country's economic reforms and strategies. Meanwhile, Poland, with its strong economy, remains cautious about joining the eurozone, with many Poles preferring to wait for a full recovery in the eurozone and for Poland to become more competitive. The World Bank sees potential benefits for Poland in adopting the euro, while geopolitical factors, particularly the conflict in Ukraine, may influence the region's economic decisions.
