Syria war: Raqqa's residents face property confiscation by SDF authorities

17 Dec 2020  |  Middle East Eye
The article discusses the plight of civilians in Raqqa, Syria, who are facing property confiscation by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the group that ousted the Islamic State (IS) from the city. Residents like Wael and Ayham Jarady have had their homes seized by the SDF, with local authorities and the SDF offering little to no justification for these actions. A controversial law aimed at 'protecting the properties of the absent' was introduced but quickly suspended due to public outcry. Legal experts, such as Abdulrazzak al-Hussein, have criticized the law as unconstitutional. Despite the SDF's control, the fear of IS resurgence remains, and the security situation in Raqqa is still unstable, leading to a continuous struggle for residents trying to reclaim their properties or adjust to life elsewhere.

En 2021, des tribunaux locaux jugerons les djihadistes étrangers retenus en Syrie

23 Nov 2020  |  rts.ch
The article discusses several key topics. Firstly, it addresses the growing number of Republican officials in the United States who are acknowledging Joe Biden's victory in the presidential election. This indicates a shift in the political landscape as more members of the Republican Party accept the election results. Secondly, the article covers the initiation of trials for foreign jihadists who are being held in Syria. This is a significant development in international law and counter-terrorism efforts. Lastly, the article mentions the release of a new book titled 'Psychologie de la connerie en politique', which translates to 'Psychology of Stupidity in Politics'. The book likely explores the psychological aspects of political behavior and decision-making.
