Giovanni “Gianni” Sorrentino is an experienced broadcast journalist, having worked for Italian broadcasting companies for many years as a TV producer, reporter, editor and filmmaker, dealing with all areas of interest – from politics to culture. Born near Naples, after high school he moved to the UK, where he specialized in Italian Neorealism and European Cinema, getting a degree at the University of Reading with a dissertation on the cinema of Italian director and actor, Nanni Moretti. After he moved back to Italy, he wrote articles for cinema magazines, until he began a freelance reporter for a minor satellite broadcasting company. His next step was a contract with the most important Italian private broadcasting company Mediaset, where he worked as a producer for a sport and showbiz-themed daily program. Curious about the evolution of Italian society in the new millennium, he did extensive research into Italian youth, in particular education and the employment system. This led to a decade-long collaboration with Okkupati, a weekly program about job opportunities and work policies on the Italian public television channel, Rai Tre. After just a few months of working as a reporter and filmmaker, he became head producer and creative director, deciding content and hosting his own on-air video segment. As a TV format creator, he recently worked for companies such as Zodiak Media group and Rai World. He lives in Rome with his best friend and wife Federica, and continues to pursue his passions: cinema, Italian regional cuisine and sport. He never loses his analytical approach, unless he is watching matches played by Napoli football team, of which he is an enthusiastic fan.

Improved antioxidant properties and sustainability of whole-fruit yellow tomato puree
The study explores the development of a new type of yellow tomato puree using whole fruits, including peels and seeds, to enhance antioxidant properties and sustainability. Two Italian cultivars, GiaGiù and a hybrid, were used, and their chemical composition, antioxidant properties, and sensory parameters were monitored over six months. The whole-fruit puree demonstrated higher dry matter, total soluble solids, and antioxidant activity compared to traditional puree, attributed to the inclusion of peels and seeds. The study highlights the potential of whole-fruit processing to improve nutritional value and reduce waste, offering a sustainable alternative in tomato puree production.
