Louis Barthélemy's exhibition 'Mbër Yi / The Wrestlers' at the Théodore Monod African Art Museum in Dakar showcases a series of tapestries that embody the duality of life and the communion of bodies with nature. The artist, inspired by Senegalese wrestling and traditional crafts, has created works that blend cultural influences from Senegal and Egypt, as well as the kingdom of Danhomè. Barthélemy, who has collaborated with notable brands and designers, moved to Cairo in 2017 and is dedicated to preserving traditional crafts. His work reflects a shift from the figurative to the abstract, influenced by the colors and movement observed in wrestling. The exhibition will continue in Dakar until March 2023 and will have a second iteration at MCC Gallery in Marrakech starting April 28, 2023, featuring new tapestries, drawings, and a performance.
