The mortgage system is inaccessible and expensive, with high interest rates driven by the Central Bank's monetary policy. To close the housing deficit, Nigeria needs to reform its mortgage and consumer credit systems, potentially requiring government intervention. The Federal Mortgage Bank's National Housing Fund is inefficient and needs improvement. Immediate collaboration between the government and private sector is essential to create an efficient mortgage system.
