Crop Diversification in the Aral Sea Region: Long-Term Situation Analysis
Agriculture in the Aral Sea region is facing declining productivity due to environmental challenges. Crop diversification is proposed to improve resilience and income stability for farmers. The study, based on data from 2000-2020, shows that diversified cropping systems yield higher revenues and contribute to environmental sustainability and food security. The government of Uzbekistan has initiated policies to promote crop diversification, but challenges such as soil salinity, water deficits, and limited access to modern technologies remain. The study emphasizes the need for continued efforts in research, policy support, and collaboration between public and private sectors to enhance crop diversification and sustainable agriculture in the region.
