Barriers and facilitators in implementing a pilot, pragmatic, telemedicine-delivered healthy lifestyle program for obesity management in a rural, academic obesity clinic

01 Dec 2020  |  BioMed Central
The study evaluates the implementation of a telemedicine-delivered healthy lifestyle program for obesity management at Dartmouth-Hitchcock, a rural academic obesity clinic in Lebanon, New Hampshire. The program, based on the Diabetes Prevention Program, involved individualized exercise and nutrition counseling via telemedicine. The study found that both patients and staff had favorable attitudes towards the program, though challenges such as workspace issues and workflow delays were noted. The findings suggest that a hybrid model combining in-person and remote sessions could enhance social engagement and reduce depersonalization. The study highlights the importance of dedicated resources and organizational support for successful telemedicine implementation.
