Jose Armijo is a seasoned photojournalist and field producer based between Mexico City and Miami. Originally from Peru and also an American citizen, he’s spent his career chasing stories that matter—from breaking news to deep human stories across the Americas and beyond. He has embedded with U.S. troops in Afghanistan, documented the conflict in Gaza, and covered the war between Ukraine and Russia, often in high-risk environments. He spent several years based in Cuba, documenting everyday life and major developments from the island. Jose has covered the Venezuela of Nicolás Maduro in depth, and the migrant crisis—walking with caravans from Central America all the way to the U.S.–Mexico border, documenting from Tapachula to El Paso. His work blends field instinct, strong visuals, and a deep understanding of the region’s social and political dynamics. He spent much of his career with CNN International and CNN Domestic, where he earned multiple Emmy recognitions and top journalism awards, including the duPont and Peabody. Whether embedded with troops or capturing the quiet resilience of migration, Jose’s lens is always focused on the human side of the story.
