I offer reporting for TV and radio, broadcasting live or pre-recorded. I live in Ankara but I move around Turkey according to the site of the news. I've also reported from Syria and Cyprus, and I follow those countries from a distance. My main clients are the English channel of France24 TV (since 2007) and Irish state radio, RTE. Turkey is going through a tough period. Liberal Turks are fighting vigorously to stop the slide towards authoritarianism. I first came to Turkey in 1988 and it is a sad fact that the country then was more democratic than it is today. But there are still newspapers and TV that are not beholden to the government, and we still have elections that produce surprises _ e.g. the local elections of 2024 when the opposition got more votes than Erdogan's party. I grew up in South Africa; began my career on The Star of Johannesburg; backpacked around the world for a few years; worked for AFP in Paris, for UPI in London, and for AP in Cairo 1997-2007. I married a Turk and settled in Ankara in 2007. Am now a Turkish citizen. I enjoy taking photographs and swimming _ the annual race across the Bosphorus Strait.
