Hyun-kyung Kang is a journalist based in Seoul, South Korea. She is an editorial writer at The Korea Times and a member of its editorial board. She writes editorials once or twice a week as well as columns. Her work includes in-depth reporting on foreign policy, Korea’s nuclear submarine program, North Korea, and foreign influence operations. Since joining the newspaper in March 2007, she has covered the presidential office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the National Assembly. She has reported extensively on South Korea’s relations with the United States, China, Russia, and Japan, and has written numerous stories on North Korea, including interviews with North Korean defectors living in South Korea. Her areas of interest include foreign policy, North Korea, domestic politics, cyberattacks, foreign influence operations, and election integrity. Prior to joining The Korea Times, she worked for eight years as a political strategist at one of South Korea’s major political parties. She holds a master’s degree in international development from Duke University in North Carolina and a master’s degree in public policy from Korea University in Seoul.
