Stockholm Coal Wharf - Carbon Neutral Cities Alliance The Stockholm Royal Seaport, a former industrial port area, is undergoing one of Europe’s largest urban redevelopments, guided by high sustainability standards. At Kollkajen, once a busy coal unloading wharf, the City of Stockholm has carried out a major transformation to clean up soil and groundwater. Special focus was given to in-situ remediation instead of the traditional excavation approach, reducing transportation needs, noise, and combustion emissions. Today, more than 7,000 people live in this vibrant neighborhood, enriched with green and blue infrastructure that promotes biodiversity, stormwater management, recreation, and the well-being of its residents.
