About Ece
Ece Sevim is a journalist based in Istanbul, Turkey. / Ece Sevim founded and was editor-in-chief of Çağdaş Ses Haber between 2011 and 2018. Specialising in investigative journalism, data journalism and long-form dossiers, she followed the Soma mine disaster for 2.5 years and has produced numerous series of articles focused on the CHP throughout her career.

In 2018 she was detained over an investigative dossier about the July 15 coup attempt — accused of having “exhibited curiosity beyond journalism.” After six months in detention she was released; she had been sentenced to three years’ imprisonment, but the Court of Appeals later determined her arrest was due to her journalistic activity. The local court subsequently acquitted her, and she received both material and moral compensation for her unlawful detention.

From 2019 to 2022 Ece Sevim published various news pieces and analyses on Turkey and world affairs for Euronews and frequently appeared as a commentator on television programmes. During the years away from day-to-day journalism she focused on academic work and taught Contemporary Society and Communication. She continues her journalism today, publishing analyses and reporting on her personal website.
