David Owino is a documentary filmmaker, broadcast journalist, and founder of Zulani TV, a platform dedicated to amplifying African voices through authentic, community-driven storytelling. Based in Nairobi, Kenya, David brings over 13 years of experience covering climate change, environmental issues, humanitarian crises, business, culture, and social justice across Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America. His work has been featured on Voice of America, Africa News, Euro News, and major Kenyan broadcasters. As a Pulitzer Center Fellow, David led a multimedia project on desertification in Kenya that was globally screened by the Global Landscapes Forum and the All Living Environmental Film Festival. Eco-Warriors of Africa, a documentary film he directed for the Voice of America was highly commended at the Association of International Broadcasters Awards – AIBs 2023. David is co-founder of DIRAJ, the Disaster Risk Reduction Network of Africa Journalists – with about a hundred members across 28 African nations, and has managed UN-backed projects to elevate solution journalism projects in climate and disaster resilience. Through Zulani and his collaborations, he champions storytelling that centres community wisdom, scientific evidence, and inclusive dialogue.
