Bruce Chung is a journalist based in Seoul, South Korea. He retired after 32 years as a professional researcher at government research and security-related institutions, including the National Forest Research Institute of the Korea Forest Service. Since then, he has been a research professor at Kyungpook National University's Big Data Center, and has been serving as the director of the Korea Institute for Security Strategy's satellite image analysis center since 2021 and a research specialist of the Space Security Research Institute since 2024. Focusing on North Korea, the research field covers a wide range of areas such as nuclear and missile, military, industry, agriculture, forestry, environment, water resources, and disasters (floods and droughts), and is also expanding his research to the war zone in Ukraine. As an expert in satellite image analysis for North Korea, he posts columns and contributions in Internet media 38 North and Radio Free Asia (RFA), Daily NK, Seoul Pyongyang News, the Ministry of Unification's NK Information Portal, and the English newsletter of the SAND Research Institute. He is a satellite analysis advisor at KBS and conducts satellite image commentary and interviews with many broadcasters such as MBC Unification Observatory, SBS, YTN, Yonhap News, TV Chosun, and Channel A. Foreign media outlets covered and cited Dr. Chung's research on North Korea's satellite imagery and produced and aired some documentaries from Japan's NHK, Yomiuri TV, Nihon TV, Asahi Shimbun, Mainichi Shimbun, Yahoo News, Washington Post, Newsweek, and the U.K.'s BBC and Reuters.
