This short animated film explores the life of Nadezhda Popova, known as Nadia, who became a World War II hero as part of a Soviet all-female bombing regiment. First published as a collaboration between The New York Times Magazine and The New York Times Op-Docs Series in December 2013, this short has gone on to play at (and win) international festivals. It also screened in for 10 weeks at the IFC Center in 2014.
